Orthognathic Surgery

Orthognathic surgery, known as jaw surgery, is performed to correct conditions of the face and jaw related to skeletal abnormalities beyond the scope of traditional orthodontic braces. Jaw surgery is performed when the upper and lower jaws do not meet correctly and/or your teeth do not fit appropriately within your jaws.

At Corsicana Oral & Facial Surgery, we perform jaw surgeries to help Corsicana residents with improper bites or whose jaws are positioned incorrectly. When your jaw grows at different rates and lengths, the resulting problems can including:

  • Chewing, biting, and swallowing difficulty
  • Problems with speech
  • Chronic jaw or TMJ pain
  • Protruding jaw
  • Open bite
  • “No chin” phenomenon
  • Problems with breathing
  • Sleep apnea

Many of these symptoms may exist at birth, be acquired after birth as a result of environment or hereditary, or as a result of facial trauma. At Corsicana Oral & Facial Surgery, Dr. Medel will work closely with your dentist and orthodontist to determine if you are a candidate for corrective jaw surgery.

Jaw surgery can move your teeth and jaws into a new, optimal position that results in a more attractive, functional, and healthy relationship between your mouth and face.
